Sam Chellino returned from World War II and found work as a mechanic for a contractor. The contractor eventually fell upon hard times and had to give Sam a crane as payment for his labor. Unbeknownst to Sam at the time, this was to his benefit, as this crane was the humble beginning of the Chellino Crane company. He rented other equipment, but ultimately focused on cranes as he started developing relationships with the refineries in the Joliet, IL area.

Sam steadily grew his business with a focus on providing expert service to the many local refineries. In 1949, Chellino Crane was the only crane company in the Joliet area. Sam’s success was not only due to his industry expertise, but was founded in his incomparable work ethic, honesty and transparency, and pride in his work. His clients were his partners – truly an extension of his family – the same way Chellino Crane operates today.

In 1968, Sam’s son Frank joined the company as Vice President, followed by his other son Greg in 1973 as an Operator. A thriving family business, Greg began to strategically grow the company in different markets in 1985. That growth has continued successfully over the past three decades making Chellino Crane one of the largest crane rental and service companies in the Midwest and one of the few that specializes in niche markets. In recent years Greg’s sons Wes and Blake joined Chellino Crane as Operations Manager and Dispatcher, respectively, to continue the growth of the company and, more importantly, to maintain the family foundation upon which the company was established.
